On 1st September 1939, Nazi Germany invaded Poland, causing the Second World War to begin. On this incredible tour, we look at the opening shots of the war at Gdansk and visit the superb WW2 museum here, as well as travelling to the Wolf’s Lair: Hitler’s headquarters in the east.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1

Fly to Gdansk and transfer to our hotel for four nights.

Day 2 - Westerplatte - Gdansk WW2 Museum

Today we start at Westerplatte where German forces invaded on 1st September 1939. We see the area where the fighting took place, visit the memorials and take a boat trip to see the battlefield from the sea.

Later, we visit the superb new Second World War Museum in Gdansk with their incredible collection that tells the WW2 story from the Polish perspective.

Day 3 - The Wolf's Lair

Today we have an early start as we travel to the Wolf’s Lair. This bunker complex was Hitler’s headquarters in the East and was first used during Operation Barbarossa, the invasion of the Soviet Union, in June 1941. It was also where the assassination attempt on his life took place on 20th July 1944, orchestrated by Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg. We have a full day here to explore the site before returning to Gdansk.

Day 4 - Stutthof Concentration Camp

On our final day, we look at the story of the Holocaust in Poland, travelling to Stutthof Concentration Camp. It was one of the earliest established in German-occupied Poland and used to detain the Polish aristocracy. It became a Death Camp later in the war, and we visit the site, museum and memorials.

Day 5

Transfer to airport for your return flight to the UK.
