Tour Itinerary

Day 1

Local departure by coach, then to Dieppe for four nights.

Day 2 - Commandos at Dieppe

We spend our first day on the Dieppe battlefields, looking at the Commando actions on the flanks of the Canadian landings during Operation Jubilee in August 1942. We examine the role of No 3 Commando at Berneval, seeing the area where they landed on Yellow Beach, the memorials that commemorate their action, and some of the bunkers they were tasked with destroying.

We then have lunch in Dieppe and uncover history at the Dieppe War Museum, before exploring the No 4 Commando area near Quibeville, visiting Orange Beach and seeing the coastal battery they attacked.

Day 3 - Canadian landings in and around Dieppe

Today’s focus is on the Canadian landings in and around Dieppe. We walk down to the landing beach at Puys where the Royal Regiment of Canada landed, and view their memorial. We then examine the landings on the seafront in the town of Dieppe and see the memorials, before looking at it from the German perspective above the town.

Later we travel to Pourville to view the landings there, finishing the day at the Dieppe War Cemetery.

Day 4 - St. Valery en Caux & Bruneval

This morning we travel to St. Valery en Caux to look at the fighting here in June 1940, and the surrender of the 51st (Highland) Division. We see the ground where they were fighting and visit the military cemetery. Later, we travel to Bruneval to uncover the details of Operation Biting – the raid here by men of the Parachute Regiment in February 1942.

In the afternoon, we discover more about the fighting for Le Havre in 1944 and the liberation of this area, seeing the Churchill Tank Memorial and war cemetery in Le Havre. We also visit a V1 launch site at Val Ygot.

You will stay for four nights at the 3-star Hotel Aguado in Dieppe. The hotel has a bar but no restaurant, however, there is a great choice of restaurants within walking distance on the marina.
