Tour Itinerary

Join our new tour to commemorate the 105th Anniversary year of the Third Battle of Ypres (Passchendaele).

Day 1

Local departure by coach, then to Belgium for four nights.

Day 2 - Third Battle of Ypres

Today we look at the opening stage of the Third Battle of Ypres, visiting the key locations connected with the fighting on 31st July 1917. At Boesinghe we see where the Guards Division and men from the 38th (Welsh) Division fought their battle, seeing Artillery Wood Cemetery, the Welsh Memorial, and Cement House Cemetery, and then look at the fighting around Langemarck including a visit to the Harry Patch Memorial and the memorials at Poelcapelle. Later we look at the Battle for St Julien, seeing Buffs Road Cemetery, and the fighting across the Frezenberg and Bellewaarde Ridges in 1917.

Day 3 - 105th Anniversary of the Third Battle of Ypres

Today we begin at the Memorial Museum Passchendaele at Zonnebeke, where we see a museum that focuses on the Third Battle of Ypres and has a reconstructed Trench System and WW1 Dugout. We then look at the Battle for Polygon Wood in September 1917, visiting the memorials and cemeteries. In the afternoon we look at the fighting across the Broodseinde Ridge, see Tyne Cot Cemetery and Memorial, and finish the day at Passchendaele village seeing where the final assaults on the village by British and Commonwealth soldiers took place, including the Canadian Memorial at Crest Farm.

Day 4 - Behind The Lines

Today we look at life behind the battlefield during Third Ypres, spending the morning at Talbot House, an old town house requisitioned by two Army padres as an escape from the war for Tommies serving in Flanders. We also see the nearby Death Cells and look at the subject of military executions in the Great War. After lunchtime in Poperinghe, we visit Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery and the Visitors Centre, on the site of the main medical facilities for Third Ypres, see the grave of Captain Noel Chavasse VC and Bar, see the sites of some of the camps at Dirty Bucket Camp, and look at the story of the Dozingham, Band,

Day 5

Return home.
