About the tour: London VE Day


Tour Introduction

We head into London on this special tour for the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, which brought about the end of the Second World War in the west. We will attend the events in commemoration of the day before spending time at the renowned Imperial War Museum. This tour also covers the build-up to D-Day as we visit the Normandy Campaign displays at the D-Day Museum in Portsmouth, before travelling to the Runnymede Memorial.

Tour Itinerary

May 7 - Brookwood Military Cemetery

Regional departure by executive coach, then on to Brookwood in Surrey to visit Brookwood Military Cemetery, the largest Commonwealth War Graves Commission Cemetery in Great Britain. Here we look at this large site and the WW2 plots, which include service personnel from many nations.

From here we head to our hotel where we will stay for three nights.

May 8 - VE Day in London

Today we will attend VE Day events in London. This is likely to involve a public parade at the Cenotaph in Whitehall.

Later in the day we will travel to the Imperial War Museum in London. The museum has a vast collection of artefacts displayed across six floors, and is renowned worldwide for its exhibitions.

May 9 - D-Day in Hampshire

Today we look at the build-up to D-Day in Hampshire, and visit the superb and newly refurbished D-Day Museum in Portsmouth. This has extensive displays covering D-Day and the Normandy Campaign.

We will also look at some pre-D-Day marshalling areas and visit the Portsmouth Memorial which commemorates Naval personnel lost at sea, including men who died on the Normandy Beaches on D-Day.

May 10 - Runnymede Memorial

On our final morning, we visit the Runnymede Memorial which commemorates thousands of men of Fighter and Bomber Command, from the Battle of Britain to the raids on Germany, as well as SOE personnel including the ‘Princess Spy’, Noor-un-Nisa Inayat Khan GC, who was killed in Dachau Concentration Camp. Return home.

You will stay for three nights in a minimum 3-star hotel in Slough, Heathrow, Reading or the Watford area. Final hotel details will be confirmed with your travel documents.

Join coach at Interchange

Join your tour coach at the interchange.

On most tours if you’d prefer to join your tour coach at Stop 24 services, you can park your car in the car park which is accredited by the Park Mark safer parking scheme and is monitored 24 hours a day by CCTV. Payment for the parking is made on arrival using the self-service machines.

Excludes tours to Ireland and the U.K. and tours travelling via Brittany Ferries.
