Tour Introduction

Brilliantly portrayed in the film ‘Downfall’, this World War Two battlefield tour looks at the true story of the last months of the war and the end of Hitler and the Nazi Regime in 1945. One of our knowledgeable Specialist Battlefield Guides and a visit to a reconstruction of Hitler’s bunker in an air raid shelter at the Anhalter Bahnhof, will certainly bring history to life. As will visits to Ravensbrück Concentration Camp, Wehrmacht Headquarters Bunkers and the Russian Museum at Karlshorst, where the final surrender of the WW2 took place on 8th May 1945.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1

Fly to Berlin and transfer to our hotel for four nights.

Day 2 - Battle for the Reichstag; Ravensbrück Concentration Camp

We start today by looking at the last weeks of the Third Reich and see where Hitler’s Bunker was. We look at the story behind those final days and see a reconstruction of the bunker in an air raid shelter at the Anhalter Bahnhof. We look at the Battle for the Reichstag in April 1945, following the Russian Advance, and after lunch, travel to the Ravensbrück Concentration Camp. This was a woman’s camp and many British SOE agents died here, including Violette Szabo GC, of ‘Carve Her Name With Pride’ fame.

Day 3 - Wehrmacht Headquarters Bunkers; Battle of the Halbe Pocket

We travel out of Berlin to Zossen-Wünsdorf and visit the Wehrmacht Headquarters Bunkers, taking a guided tour and seeing the garrison museum and rocket-shaped air raid shelters. There is also a book village, here with time to explore. After lunch we examine the Battle of the Halbe Pocket, seeing the German War Cemetery, the Russian Graves and Tank Memorials, and the area of the fighting in Halbe itself.

Day 4 - Treptower; Seelow Heights

This morning we visit the Russian Museum at Karlshorst, where the final surrender of the Second World War took place on 8th May 1945. We see the huge Russian Cemetery and Memorial at Treptower before going east of Berlin to the Seelow Heights, seeing where the final battles on the Eastern Front took place in April 1945: here we see the Seelow Museum, Soviet Memorial and visit the battlefield around the town.
