The Battles for Antwerp

About the tour: The Battles for Antwerp

Tour Introduction

In the autumn of 1944 the Allied Armies were still being supplied direct from the Normandy beaches, now hundreds of miles from the front line. The port of Antwerp had to be taken, but to make it operational, the Walcheren Island also had to be captured as it guarded the approaches to Antwerp. There was heavy fighting here in 1944; join us on this new tour as we look at some of the Netherlands' most remarkable museums and battlefield sites.
